Kinney, Winston E., 87, September 11, 2010. Arrangements by Dunn Funeral Home, Houlton. Houlton & Danforth – Winston E. Kinney, 87, passed away Sept. 11, 2010 at a local hospital. He was born June 21, 1923 at Homesville, NB, Canada, the son of Harvey Kinney and Erma Idella (Broad) Kinney Tidd.
Winstons’s family moved from Canada to Houlton in the early 1930's and then moved to Danforth in 1938, where he worked on the family farm and graduated from Danforth High School in 1942.
After high school, Winston served in the US Army during WWII. He married the daughter of Bertion and Elsie Mae (Neal) Dow, Veronica Dow, on Nov. 16, 1946. In 1957, he moved his family to Millinocket where he was employed by Great Northern Paper Co. and the Millinocket Public Works Department. In 1963, they moved to Wallingford, CT where he was employed by Ortence, Inc. and then Pratt & Whitney (UTC) as a carpenter until his retirement in 1993 at age 70. Winston and his family moved back to Houlton in 2006 where he spent the rest of his retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Veronica (Dow) Kinney of Houlton; son, Gerold Kinney of Lee; daughter, Gail Kinney of Houlton; sister, Leola Cowen of Danforth; two grandsons, Gerold Kinney Jr. and Aaron Kinney, both of FL, his beloved dog Punky; several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Winston’s Life will be announced at a later date.
