Island Falls fishing derby results

    The Island Falls Fish and Game Club held its annual SummerFest Fishing Derby on July 31 and Aug. 1 at the Island Falls Fish and Game Club. The derby included Mattawamkeag Lake and Pleasant Pond, both in Island Falls. Prizes were awarded for the heaviest salmon, white perch, bass, and pickerel. There was also a special drawing for five additional prizes for anyone who weighed-in a fish, but did not win a cash prize. Everyone present when prizes were awarded got a door prize.

    Participation in the derby was up by 50 percent over last year. Organizers awarded $1,000 in prize money, plus special drawings and door prizes.
    Winners of the salmon category were: first, Fred Osgood of Millinocket, 5.58 pounds, $100; second, Carol Blood, Houlton, 2.76 pounds, $75; third, Bruce Boisvert, Bangor, 2.28 pounds, $50 and fourth, Jake Fournier, Bangor, 2.16 pounds, $25.
    White perch winners: first, Katie Smith, Gorham, 1.06 pounds, $100; second, Bev Yates, Patten, .84 pounds, $75; third, Tobias Yates, Patten, .82 pounds, $50 and fourth, Lewis Conrad, Island Falls, .74 pounds, $25.
    Bass winners: first, Greg Gayne, Dyer Brook, 3.34 pounds, $100; second, Tony Pratt, Oakfield, 3.08 pounds, $75; third, Laurie Dow, Bangor, 3.02 pounds, $50 and fourth, Peter Blood, Houlton, 2.96 pounds, $25.
    Pickerel winners: first, Bruce McNally, Island Falls, 2.84 pounds, $100; second, Jesse Sturtevant, Island Falls, 2.24 pounds, $75; third, Jim Slauenwhite, Island Falls, 2.16 pounds, $50 and fourth, Robby Robinson, Island Falls, 2.10 pounds, $25.
    For those who weighed-in a fish, but did not win a cash prize, a special drawing for five special prizes was held. Winners were: two-night stay at Vacationland Estates, Ryland King, Island Falls; two-night stay at Acadia Village Resort, Emma Smith, Gorham; $50 gift Walmart gift card, Tim Otis, Limestone; two $25 gift certificates to Horn of Plenty, Hunter Noyes of Oakfield and Carson Grant of Dyer Brook.
    Everyone who joined the fishing derby and was present when prizes were awarded got door prizes donated by various businesses. Special thanks to Richard Lane Jr. who rounded up additional door prizes.
