An exciting finish to the 2010 Houlton Club Championship found Dylan Flewelling edging defending champion Jerry York in a three-hole playoff. Tied after 36 holes of excellent golf, Dylan birded two of the three holes to win his first Club Championship. But, the youngster will win again as he is a very talented player.
In the “B” Division, Nick Chase finished ahead of Fred Putnam, while in the “C” Division, Walter Mitty was first and Gary Stewart, second, and Wayne Quint won the “D” Division. The Women’s champ was Linda Holmes, with Lori Holmes as the “B” champ and Jennifer Wallace was tops in “C.”
Doug Dickison topped Kyle Bouchard to win the Junior’s championship.
On a personal note, I enjoyed playing one round with Fred Putnam as 60 years ago; I had the pleasure of playing with his Dad in club play. Albert was a true gentleman and fine golfer.
The final standings in the Men’s Twilight League are: Turner/Mailman winners of the Mickelson Division; Williams/Williams in the Furyk Division and Edgar/Moakler in the Watson Division. The top four teams in each division qualify for championship play.
The team winner of the Ladies’ Twilight League for Aug. 17 is the Happy Hookers with 58 points. Tied for second are the Tigers and Legal Eagles. Individual winners are Marion Collins and Beth Dee. Ladies have two more weeks of play to up their team’s point count.
Awards for individuals and team winners will be made at the season-ending banquet for the Ladies’ Association on Sept. 14.
Excitement is building for the annual Babe Caron Member-Guest Tournament on Sept. 4-5.
Friday, Sept. 3, will be special with social hour from 5-6 p.m., followed by a dinner of clams and lobster from 6-8 p.m. and finishing with an auction of teams at 8 p.m. Members, guests and spouses are invited. This is one of the year’s highlights. It is a very enjoyable event.
