HOULTON — The Friends and Needles Quilt Guild will be hosting its annual Quilt Show called “The Quilt Show 2010” from Friday, Aug. 20, to Sunday Aug. 22. This is the same weekend as the Houlton Potato Feast.
Admission will be $5 and show times are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The show will again be at the Elks Club and several quilt vendors will be ready to offer fabrics, quilt kits, notions, sewing machines and lots more.
The 2010 Raffle Quilt has been completed. It is made with Aunt Grace Authentics fabrics and so we have named it “Aunt Grace’s Apron”. Kim Hazlett used her magic computer program to create a paper-pieced pattern and members stitched the blocks which were put together by Stephanie Pearce and Rita Kingsbury, who also added the many borders. Lorrie Little did the machine quilting and Kim finished it up with the binding.
The quilt show will again feature our Silent Auction. Attendees can place bids on wall hangings, bags, table runners, and other items including another of Stephanie Pearce’s wonderful miniature versions of our raffle quilt.
A highlight this year will be the exhibit of a unique mixed technique quilt by Laura Peterson called simply “The Quilt Show.” To see a photo of the quilt and read her narrative of its creation visit her website at http://www.laurapetersonquilts.com.
Two registration forms (see Quilt Registration Sample Form for required info) must be completed for EACH item and submitted with the quilt or quilted item. Registration forms are available in a mailbox at Jennifer’s or at First Choice Real Estate, 46 North St. You may also complete the form when dropping off your quilt. Please refer to the sample form and have the necessary information with you. You will be issued a numbered receipt tag for each item. This receipt tag must be presented when picking up your items. No quilts will be released without this receipt.
Your quilt should have an attached label and be enclosed in a cloth pillow case or cloth bag with your name on it. A matching numbered label will be put on this bag for transportation to the show and for storage after the show. When the quilt is being hung this bag will be pinned to the back of the quilt or quilted item so as not to be lost or separated from the quilt as it will be needed to release the quilt back to you.
Those of us who have received the quilts will have the quilts transported to the show in good time for those who are hanging them. Numbers to assure they are in the building will then check them again. When the quilts are taken down they will be placed in a secure room where they will be placed in their bags, and no quilt will be allowed to be removed without a person presenting a receipt with the proper number for that item.
If anyone wishes for someone else to take their quilt home for them, they will need to give that person their receipt so the numbers can be checked against the number on the quilt, the bag it is placed in, and on a master sheet which will be kept at the checkout station. Quilts and items will only be available for pick up between 5-6 p.m. on Sunday. Please be patient when picking up your items. Quilts will be released to you or to person who has your receipt. Do not drop your receipt and pick up your quilt. Every item must be checked off on the master list in order to assure that all quilts are protected from being lost.
