Canoe/kayak race is Saturday
    The Island Falls summer canoe/kayak race will be held on July 31 in memory of Ena Noyes Phipps, a longtime lake association member, camp owner on Pleasant Lake and friend.
    Registration will be on Saturday morning at 9-9:45 a.m. and the entry fee is $10. All registration fees are donated to the Southern Aroostook Dollars for Scholars chapter.

SummerFest Fishing Derby
    The Island Falls Fish & Game Club is sponsoring the SummerFest Fishing Derby on Saturday, July 31 and Sunday, Aug. 1. The derby encompasses Mattawamkeag Lake and Pleasant Pond in Island Falls.
    Cash prizes for top four heaviest pickerel, bass, salmon, and white perch will be up for grabs. Special drawings for all who register a fish, but don’t win the cash prizes, will also be available. 50/50 tickets will be sold and drawn during prize distribution.
    Weigh-in begins at the Fish & Game Club Saturday 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cash prizes, special drawings, and door prizes are awarded immediately after last weigh-in at 2 p.m. on Sunday. The entry fee is $10 per person.  You do not have to be present to win one of the cash prizes, but you must be present to win door prizes.
    Sign up before the derby at Jerry’s Thriftway in Island Falls or at the Fish & Game Club on the days of the derby.

Annual steak dinner
    On Friday, Aug. 6, the Island Falls Fish & Game Club is holding its annual steak dinner. The meal includes: Charcoal grilled steak; homemade dinner rolls; gigantic salad bar (featuring traditional salad ingredients, cottage cheese, macaroni & cheese, and homemade dressings); homemade pie; coffee, tea, and soda; hot dogs are also available upon request
    The meal will be served from 5-7 p.m. at the Fish & Game Club. The cost for adults is $12.50 and children 12 and younger is $6. For more information, call Reneva at 463-2504.
