County looks hot

    CARIBOU — The County is looking hot this May, thanks to a high-pressure ridge that has allowed warm air from the south to mingle its way up north and cause a shorts and sandals surge.
    Temperatures made their way up to 87 degrees on Monday, which had some Aroostook residents reaching for the air conditioning and others reaching for bottles of sunscreen.
    According to Mike Cantin, warning coordination meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Caribou, there have been 125 days in May where Caribou temperatures have reached 80 degrees or higher since 1939 and statistically, there is a 100 percent probability that The County will see 80 degrees or higher by May 24. May generally has average highs in the mid -60s.
    Cantin predicted on Tuesday afternoon that temperatures were going to be returning to their normal mid-60s status by the end of the week.
    Temperatures last summer were nothing to shake a sun hat at but this year is shaping up to be a more typical summer for Aroostook County.
