The Houlton tennis teams split with host Penobscot Valley on Saturday and host Van Buren last Wednesday.
As of Tuesday morning, the Houlton boys team is sixth in the Class C Heal Point standings as of Tuesday morning, with the top 10 teams in the playoffs. The preliminary matches are June 1, with the quarterfinals on June 3; semifinals on June 5 at the higher-seeded team’s home court, while the EM championship on June 9 will be at Colby College. On Saturday, PVHS girls defeated Houlton, 4-1, with Houlton’s only win coming to Ashley Hannigan by forfeit.
Houlton players on the losing side were: Kelsey Fitzpatrick, 8-1 to Jordan Faloon and Megan Gerath, 8-6 to Myranda Tash. Daisy Torres/Courtney Bragan fell to Kristina Hallett/Cassandera Thibeault, 8-6 and Lizzy Garcia/Maggie Garcia fell to Kristie Mackin/Mook Vinaiphat.
The Houlton boys defeated PVHS, 5-0, as Cody Woods defeated Adam Brown, 8-0; Craig Thomas topped Dylan Morin, 8-0 and Jordan Russell overtook Will Lloyd, 8-6. D.J. McGary/Avery Kibler and Jacob McGuffin/Nick Carmichael both won by forfeit.
The Shire boys defeated the Crusaders, 4-1, with Houlton’s Zach Harvey defeating Matt Vick, 8-4 and Tyler Delano overtaking Eric LaPlante, 9-8 (7-2), while Woods/Thomas topped Mark Levasseur/Brandon Ouellette, 8-4 and Kibler/Russell defeated Nick Violette/Derrick Rossignol, 8-4.
Houlton’s only loss was when Nathan LaPointe bested Luke Anderson, 8-6.
The Houlton girls were defeated 5-0 by Van Buren, as Hiba Bilal was defeated 8-1 by Haley Lizotte; Fitzpatrick suffered an 8-1 loss to Natasha Bourgoin and Gerath fell 8-4 to Kaitlin Parent.
In doubles, Torres/Ashley Hannigan fell 8-1 to Jen Ouellette/Kristy Leonard and Courtney Bragan/Liz Garcia were defeated 8-6 by Victoria Rouix/Ashley Martin.
