The Katahdin Cougars took another game into extra innings on Monday against visiting Lee Academy. In the bottom of the 12th, the Cougars scored the game-winning run.
Katahdin led 3-2 until Lee scored the go-ahead run in the fourth for a 4-3 advantage. The Cougars tied the game in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. In the 12th, Brandon Robinson and Cody Cunningham delivered back-to-back doubles for the win. Robinson ended the game with two doubles and a single, while Cunningham doubled and singled. Spencer Anderson singled twice and doubled for the winners.
Last Saturday in Brewer, the Cougars played a doubleheader against Deer Isle-Stonington, with the first game not decided until the bottom of the ninth inning, as Deer Isle pulled out a 3-2 victory.
In the eighth, the Cougars took a 2-1 lead on Billy Livezey’s sacrifice fly. The lead was short, as in the bottom of the frame, the Mariners answered with a one-out run-scoring single of their own.
Deer Isle’s Joe Carter drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the ninth and scored from first on a lined ball to the outfield.
The Cougars’ Robinson threw a four-hitter, while striking out 12 and walking two.
In the nightcap, the Mariners took a 1-0 lead in the first, but the Cougars would score all of the runs they would need for a 4-2 win in the fourth. Mark McGraw hit a two-out single and went to third on an outfield error on the ensuing play and scored on Kolby Gallagher’s double. Gallagher then scored on Cody Cunningham’s single.
Cunningham struck out 12 and walked one, while allowing five hits for the win.
Last Thursday, the Cougars blanked visiting Hodgdon, 12-0.
For the Cougars, McGraw doubled, singled and batted in three runs, while Livezey singled twice, doubled and scored twice. Mickey Savage doubled and singled and Robinson singled twice.
Leading Hodgdon was Jake Tidd, who doubled.
Last Tuesday, the Cougars dropped visiting Schenck, 17-3.
Katahdin scored 10 first-inning runs and never looked back, as Cunningham collected three singles and drove in three runs and Chris Cloukey knocked in three runs with a single and triple. Robinson and Brady McNally each stroked two singles.
In baseball action last Saturday, the Southern Aroostook Warriors swept Fort Kent in a doubleheader by identical 6-2 scores.
In the opener, Pat Goodall threw a five-hitter, allowing only two runs, as he was backed offensively by Jesse Small, who stroked a two-run single to key a five-run sixth. Small finished the game with two singles and two RBIs.
In the second game, the score was tied 1-all in the fourth before the Warriors came back with three runs in the fifth and another two runs in the sixth en route to the win.
SACS’ Goodall hit two singles and drove in two runs, while Dakota Sleeper went seven innings, giving up two hits and two runs.

Dylan Porter and Anthony Diaferio each doubled and singled twice for the Warriors, while Goodall singled twice, driving in four runs and scoring three times for Southern Aroostook. Porter had three RBIs and scored three runs, while Diaferio drove in a run and scored twice.
Abe Brittain singled in the first inning for East Grand.
At Woodland, the Dragons overpowered East Grand, 12-2.
John Wright and Abe Brittain each had run-scoring hits in the fifth for East Grand.
Last Tuesday, the Warriors were defeated 9-1 by visiting Central Aroostook behind Logan McLaughlin’s two-hitter.
SACS scored its only run in the bottom of the fourth after two walks, as Travis Casey hit an RBI-single to score Goodall from second.
In girls’ softball action on Monday, the Katahdin Lady Cougars topped visiting Lee, 10-7, as Olivia McNally provided a two-run single in the fifth and plated a run-scoring sacrifice. Makayla Patterson had two singles for the winners.
In their second meeting in three days, the Foxcroft Ponies handled Houlton, 12-0 in five innings.
Marina Cameron, Tori Hanson and Michaela Tracy all singled for the Lady Shires.
On Saturday in Houlton, the Ponies routed the Lady Shires, 16-2.
Houlton’s Vanessa Sanderson and Madison Lezotte each doubled and singled.
The Southern Aroostook Lady Warriors toppled host Ashland, 15-7 behind leading hitters Katelyn Goodall’s double and single to drive in three runs. Bree Bubar triples and knocked in a run, while Sommers doubled.
The game was tied 5-all after four innings, then Ashland’s pitching went downhill, and the Lady Warriors took advantage of three walks, two hit batters, scoring four runs on wild pitches and an error.
The Hodgdon Lady Hawks were downed 15-3 and 19-0 by visiting Calais on Saturday in their doubleheader.
In the opener, Destiny Ellis doubled and Annie Hare delivered a two-run single. The Blue Devils led 11-0 after four innings.
The second game found Calais winning after taking a 10-0 third-inning lead.
Hodgdon’s offense was led by Ellis, who singled in the fourth to break up a no-hit bid.
The Lady Mariners topped Katahdin in their doubleheader on Saturday in Brewer, 13-1 and 6-3.
In the opener, Mariah Williams led Katahdin with a pair of singles and an RBI.
In the second game, Katahdin’s Myah Smallwood tripled and singled, while Kali Rush doubled and singled.
Last Thursday, the Lady Cougars topped Hodgdon, 21-9 in Stacyville.
Katahdin took a 15-3 lead after three innings, with Patterson hitting a two-run single in a seven-run second inning.
Hodgdon’s Maya Gardner and Heather Rockwell each doubled.
Last Friday, Southern Aroostook defeated host Fort Fairfield 25-4.
SACS’ Kaitlyn Sommers hit four singles and a double while driving in five runs, while Liz Goodall tripled and doubled twice to drive in three runs.
Central Aroostook swept GHCA in a doubleheader in Houlton last Friday, 17-4 and 28-8.
In the first game, CAHS led 6-4 after three innings before opening the game up. Page Fletcher singled twice and drove in two runs, while Brianna Hartin singled twice and brought in a run.
For GHCA, Kiki Smart doubled, singled and knocked in a run, while Olivia Lee singled twice.
In the second game, CAHS jumped on the Lady Eagles 13-2 after the second inning en route to another victory.
CAHS’ Vicki McIntyre hit a three-run home run in the first inning , while Michaela King singled twice and drove in two runs.
For GHCA, Lee and Caitlyn Miles each singled and scored a run.
Last Monday, SACS defeated visiting GHCA, 15-3 behind L. Goodall’s three-hitter. She struck out eight and walked two. Shelby Hartin led SACS’ offense with three singles, driving in three runs. Olivia Raymond tripled and knocked in three runs, while Goodall helped herself with a double and RBI.
For GHCA, Smart tripled and singled, while Mackenzie McGuire singled and drove in a run.
The Lady Eagles split with Wisdom last Tuesday in a double header, losing 18-5 in the opener, but taking a 28-19 win in the nightcap.
Smart led GHCA with two triples and a single, while Lee and McGuire each hit a double.
In the second contest, Wisdom struck for 10 first-inning runs, but that didn’t stop the Lady Eagles who came back in the fifth with 13 runs of their own, erasing a 10-run deficit. GHCA outhit Wisdom, 23-12.
GHCA’s Miles doubled and singled three times, while Smart had four singles; Lee, McGuire and Desi Vargas all singled three times in the win.
Katahdin topped visiting Schenck 12-5 last Tuesday behind Rush’s three singles. McNally and Megan Merry drove in two runs apiece, while Smallwood pitched a complete game to earn the win.
The Lady Hawks defeated visiting Fort Fairfield, 29-17 last Tuesday.
Hodgdon’s Taylor McGary collected three singles and a triple, while driving in two runs and Whitney Wallace singled three times and drove in three runs, along with Nikki Tuck’s two doubles and three RBIs.
Last Wednesday, the East Grand Lady Vikings lost to host Woodland, 19-1.
Shaunna Beaudoin tripled for East Grand and later scored on an Jenny Armstrong’s run-scoring single.
Southern Aroostook squeaked out a 13-12 win over Central Aroostook last Wednesday in the seventh inning when SACS’ Sommers scored from third on a passed ball. She had tripled, singled and drove in four runs for the Lady Warriors. Megan Long added a double, a single and brought in two runs for SACS.
Presque Isle handled visiting Houlton, 8-1 last Wednesday.
Houlton’s Cameron singled three times in the game.
