PORTLAND – Frederick Keith Gildred, Jr. went to be with the Lord on May 15, 2010 at Maine Medical Center with his family and pastor by his side. He was born in Houlton, Maine on September 4, 1949. He graduated from Houlton High, attended Unity College, Glen Cove Bible College and graduated with honors from Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
He was an ordained minister in the Church of the Nazarene and served pastorates at Caribou and Lincoln, Maine. When not working full time he could be found assisting almost anyone who needed a hand.
An avid outdoorsman growing up, he enjoyed trapping, hunting and fishing in northern Maine. Despite being disabled in his later years, he continued to enjoy being in the outdoors as much as possible.
He leaves behind a daughter, Sonya Gildred of Fort Edward, NY; a son, Frederick Gildred III and his wife Rebecca of Rockland, ME, his mother, Maxine Gildred of Belgrade; two sisters, Charlotte Seckler and her husband Ed of Casco, and Judy McLellan and her husband Bob of Windham; a brother Terrence “Nick” Gildred and his wife Elaine of Foxboro, MA; 6 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and his cat Obama.
He was predeceased by his father, Frederick Keith Gildred, Sr. “Grampy Bud” in 2008.
A memorial service will be held on May 22, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Augusta Baptist Church and led by Pastor Howard Cole. A reception for friends and family will follow at the church. A private internment will be held for immediate family in Belgrade. For more information call 207-593-6450.
