For more than 15 years, Sutton worked as an Adult Education Program Director in Arizona. In addition, Sutton worked as a Program Manager and Tutor Trainer for many years with Volunteer Literacy in Arizona. Working with volunteer tutors has great meaning to her. She believes that volunteer literacy is the most effective way to meet the needs of new readers and adult learners. During her years of literacy work Sutton has worked with community programs, family literacy, probation and homeless education.
Sutton will work closely with the adult education community in Aroostook County, to champion the cause of the literacy volunteer organization of providing free and confidential teaching to any adult, on any learning level who desires to increase their literacy skills.
Since joining LVA, Sutton has been invited to participate on the National Accreditation Review panel where she will assist in the review of literacy programs for national accreditation through ProLiteracy America.  She recently completed training and is now a Certified Manager in Program Improvement with the National Adult Education Professional Development Consortium and ProLiteracy America.
Sutton and her family moved from Arizona to Houlton last year when her husband was transferred with the Border Patrol.  They truly enjoy Maine’s way of life and have enjoyed getting to know the area.  LVA is sponsoring two tutor trainings in Houlton April 12 and 13 and again April 19 and 20.
