Standpipe — Levi Plant has purchased the old standpipe on High Street and will use it for scrap iron, it having outlived its usefulness, being erected in 1884. It has not been used since the new reservoir was built.
Local — C.E. Hoyt of Ft. Fairfield, who was attending Court here last week, and C.E. Dunn of this town, both members of Company G. 20th Maine Regiment, were recalling reminiscences of the Civil War, when it occurred to them that last Saturday was the 45th anniversary of the surrender of General Lee’s army at Appomattox. These two men were probably the only two in town who witnessed the surrender of the fragment of the once great Army of Northern Virginia.
