OAKFIELD, Maine — Beautiful weather Saturday drew scores of people to the Bethel Pentecostal Church in Oakfield for one of the area’s largest Easter egg hunts. Pastor Brian Markie of the Bethel Pentecostal Church said Saturday marked the third Easter egg hunt the church has conducted and each year the turnout and support has gotten greater. “Last year, with children and adults, we drew around 400 people,” Markie said. “This year, with the weather being so nice, I think we drew even more. Each year it seems to grow progressively bigger. People that have been in year’s past will call and ask when we are going to do it again.”
The church spread an estimated 10,000 plastic eggs around its lot on the Smyrna Road. In addition to the all the candy, there were a couple of big prizes too. Walmart donated a $75 gift card, which the church used to purchase a flat screen television. A $25 gift card from Irving was also awarded.
The egg hunt draws people from all over Southern Aroostook, Markie said. Prior to the egg hunt, Markie said he likes to give a presentation to those in attendance.
“We basically give a Salvation message,” Markie said. “It’s a 20-minute presentation to let people realize that Easter is not just about candy and bunnies. We talk about the real reason for the holiday.”
