HOULTON — The 2010 annual meeting and dinner gala for the Greater Houlton Chamber of Commerce kicks off Saturday at the Houlton Lodge of Elks.
This year’s event, which is themed “An Evening in Paradise,” brings the membership together for an evening of dining, brief business, recognition of the year’s top business and community leaders, as well as an auction.
“The chamber’s board of directors will transform the Houlton Lodge of Elks into a theme-oriented extravaganza, with special lighting, extraordinary decorations and music,” said Chamber Director Lori Weston said.
One of the most important parts of the evening is the recognition of individuals and business that the membership has voted for. Several months ago, forms were sent to the membership requesting nominees for the awards of “Lifetime Achievement,” “Business of the Year,” “Community Spirit” and “Community Serivce.”
“As in year’s past, the list of businesses, groups and individuals was very impressive,” Weston said.
The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes an individual for a lifetime of consistent community contributions. Their actions, achievements and contributions evoke admiration and respect throughout the community and beyond. The 2010 recipient is Walter Goodrich.
The Business of the Year has the following criteria: business growth and improvement; quality customer service; staying power; overall excellence in the marketplace; community contributions; major achievements with the business field; and be a member of the Greater Houlton Chamber of Commerce. The 2010 recipient is Smith & Wesson.
The Community Spirit award recognizes an individual who has shown extraordinary community spirit through acts of volunteerism and/or any other manner of contribution to our area. The 2010 recipient is John Fitzpatrick.
The Community Service Award recognizes groups who have consistently contributed to the Greater Houlton area in any manner that has improved the quality of life to its community members through services or programs provided. The 2010 recipient is the Houlton Regional Hospital Auxiliary.
“This event provides the perfect opportunity to connect with colleagues and friends, while showing support for the award recipients,” Weston said. “It is not too late to plan on attending. Simply call the Chamber to make a reservation and menu choices at 532-4216.”
