HOULTON — Houlton Regional Hospital welcomed its first new baby of 2010 at 2:14 a.m., Jan. 1 when Haley Dawn McGary was born. The second daughter of Misty Roy and Matthew McGary of Merrill, Haley weighed in at 8 pounds and was 21 inches long.
“We weren’t expecting a New Year’s baby,” Misty said. “I was induced on Dec. 30. My due date was the 29th, so I thought she would be here by the 31st.”
Matthew thought the couple’s new bundle would arrive before Christmas since their first child, 19-month-old Hannah May, was a few weeks early.
Misty said she was at her doctor’s office and the decision was made to induce her because of the weekend storm. “They did not want me real far away, having to travel in the storm,” she said.
She arrived at HRH in the afternoon Dec. 30.
The obstetrics staff at the hospital presented the couple with a basket of items for having the first baby of 2010 at HRH. The nurses donated all items in the basket, which featured books, bibs, and other items for the newborn.
