ImageHOULTON – Kelse M. McGary, 82, went to be with his Lord Dec. 20, 2009, after suffering a stroke in 2003, forcing him to retire from his woods business. He was born Sept. 7, 1927, in Linneus, to John and Blanche (Tarr) McGary.
Kelse was an extremely hard worker from an early age, starting his own trucking business at age 15. Throughout the years, he worked in construction, trucking and the logging business, which was his greatest love. He loved loading pulp trucks, making sure he always had a "full" load! Kelse served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Houlton Wesleyan Church. Kelse will always be remembered for his bright blue eyes, quick wit, hunting "experiences," and his close relationships with the Department of Transportation officers.
He was loved and will be greatly missed by his wife of 62 years, Norma (Byron) McGary; and his family members, Jane and Larry Ross, Larry and Viola Byron, Wayne and Sandra McGary, Suzette and William "Buzzy" Belyea, Jay Yerxa, Kristen and Kenny Dubois, Kevin Byron, Neal and Sharon Byron, Kim and Mark Bursey, Adam and Lori McGary, Scott McGary, Matthew McGary, Jared and Jennifer McGary, Marcus Neal, Will Belyea, Madelyn and Emma Bursey, Jillian, Alexis, Jonathan, Justin and Kelse McGary, Maxine Cummings, Madeline Irish, Lloyd McGary, Fern Bubar, Margaret Siltz, Carl and Cheryl McGary and John McGary. Kelse was predeceased by his parents; siblings, Yvonne Scott and Horace McGary; and two very special employees and friends of many years, George Cole and Sonny Knapp. He and his family appreciated the excellent care provided by Dr. Abouleish, Madigan Home Health and Visiting Nurses of Aroostook.
Calling hours were held 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Houlton Wesleyan Church, where funeral services were held 1 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Wayne Robertson officiating. Burial will be at Linneus Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kelse's memory to Caring Bridge for Carter Cummings or McKenna Ward. Envelopes will be available at the church or may be mailed care of Bowers Funeral Home, P.O. Box 579, Houlton, ME 04730.
