AUGUSTA — With the winter sports season not yet at the half-way point, the playoff picture remains too cloudy to predict which teams will advance into postseason and which will have to wait for another year. The following standings are for games played through Monday, Dec. 28. The standings for Eastern Class D girls do not include the Dec. 17 contest between Katahdin and East Grand. Katahdin won that game 92-18.
Boys basketball
In Eastern Class C, Hodgdon (2-4, 4.6296 points) is 10th, while Houlton (1-3, 2.4510) is 15th out of 20 teams. Washington Academy (6-0, 20.7176) is the No. 1 seed. The top 10 teams make the playoffs, with top six 6 earning a first-round bye.
In Eastern Class D, Greater Houlton Christian (5-1, 8.3170) is fifth; Southern Aroostook (3-1, 4.9020) is seventh; Katahdin (3-3, 3.8580) is 11th; and East Grand (1-5, 0.5556) is 17th. Schenck (6-1, 13.4259) is the No. 1 seeded team. The top 10 teams make the playoffs, with the top six earning a first-round bye.
Girls basketball
In Eastern Class C, Houlton (5-1, 9.5988 points) is third, while Hodgdon (2-4, 2.3148) is 15th in the 20-team region. Foxcroft Academy (5-0, 15.1235) is the top-ranked team.
