OAKFIELD, Maine — Christmas elves will be hard at work at the Bethel Pentecostal Church in Oakfield Christmas day preparing and delivering holiday meals to those in need.
For the sixth straight year, individuals from Littleton to Amity and Island Falls are welcome to come enjoy a home-cooked Christmas dinner at the church from noon to 5 p.m. Those who are unable to get to the church can also receive a turkey dinner delivered to their home.
The concept of providing meals to those in need, or those that do not want to spend the holiday alone, originated with Lorraine Cullins, a member of the Bethel Pentecostal Church choir. Each year, the number of individuals participating has grown dramatically. Last Christmas, nearly 250 individuals were served a warm meal.
“Preparing this dinner is our church’s gift to those who may otherwise not have a hot meal or be alone,” Cullins said. “It also makes our Christmas more special to help those in need. We see more and more people needing deliveries, so we also need people to volunteer as drivers.”
Any individuals who would like a ride to the church or have a meal delivered to their home should call the church at 757-8623 and leave a message, or contact Cullins at 538-9068 or Randy Rockwell at 757-8343.
