Island Falls Happenings

On Dec. 13, the Whittier Congregational Church hosted an ecumenical potluck luncheon held at 11:30 a.m. in the vestry to the church. Many members of the Baptist and Catholic churches attended and all enjoyed an hour of good food and fellowship. Following the luncheon a special service was held in the sanctuary led by Pastor Amanda Wagner, which included readings and a carol sing.
After this service all were invited to the Baptist Church to enjoy “A Night in Bethlehem” which depicted different booths offering baked goods. A tax collector’s booth, stonemason’s booth, a painting shop and there was also a booth with live animals (from Brian MacDonald’s farm in Oakfield) to show how animals were sold those many years ago.
Pastor Ben Green also demonstrated how to write in Hebrew. All this was much enjoyed by all who attended and I’m sure all will be back for a rerun next year.   Have received a nice phone call recently from Claudette DeLong, former resident of Island Falls, now living in Brooksville, Florida. She informed me that they had had some rain lately and I informed her that we had had our first snowfall. The DeLongs plan to spend Christmas with the Harvey’s who are residents of Patten, but spend the winters in the south.
Have been kept real busy during thid cold spell keeping the feeders full and lots of “the woodpecker’s delight” which is peanut butter and lard mix, on the limbs of the cedar tree and also on one of the feeders. It disappears very fast so I dash out and keep adding more. Still have the deer around although I haven’t seem them as they wait until dark to come out and eat. All kinds of tracks everywhere where they roam around at night. Even had a trail going over to my neighbors’ house where they know there is an apple tree, now devoid of any apples, though.
