Eagles soar to 3-0
It’s the end of the second week of the high school basketball season, and some teams are being challenged early on, while others will look to impove as the season progresses.
The GHCA Eagles earned their third win last week over Ashland 59-55 for a 3-0 start to the year.

GHCA 59, Ashland, 55 — The Eagles led throughout the game on Monday, holding a 25-20 halftime lead and a 44-35 third-period advantage. In the final quarter, the Hornets crept closer, but the Eagles held them off for the win on Monday at the University of Maine at Presque Isle.
Jaron Gray led GHCA with 16 points, while Micah Wiley netted 13 and Zach Straubel added 11 more. Ethan Holmes dropped in eight and Ted Bowers chipped in with six.
SACS 56, Limestone 40 — It was an eight-point lead for the Warriors at halftime, 24-16, which extended through the second half, as the Warriors led 36-25 after the third on Monday in Limestone.
Cody Robinson scored 17 points to lead Southern Aroostook, while Jesse Small added nine points and Pat Goodall netted eight for the winners. Garry Sutherland and Anthony Diaferio chipped in with six and five points, respectively.
CAHS, 71, SACS 57 — The Panthers erased a 16-13 opening lead behind Caleb Kelly’s nine of his 29 points in the second quarter to take a 35-30 lead into the locker room. The Panthers maintained their third-quarter lead to 48-43 before the Panthers’ Kelly tacked on 14 more points in the fourth to extend their lead en route to the win.
Logan McLaughlin dropped in 13, while Mitchell Folsom added 11 more for the winners.
For the Warriors, Dakota Sleeper netted 22 points and Cody Robinson added 20 more, while Travis Casey had nine.
Schenck 63, Katahdin 37 — The Wolverines took a 12-5 opening lead and held a 28-19 advantage at the half. Over the third, the Wolverines led 41-28 en route to the win.
The Cougars, 1-2, were led by Kolby Gallagher’s 13 points.
Lee 65, Houlton 48 — On Friday in Houlton, the Shires took their second loss on the year. The Pandas held a 24-20 halftime lead, extending it over the third, 46-38 to take the win.
Jordan Codrey led Houlton with 20 points, while Jordan Bragan added 13 and Corey Woodworth seven more.
Hodgdon 63, Limestone/MSSM 26 – On Friday, the Hawks raced to a 20-7 opening lead and held a comfortable 32-11 halftime advantage, as they overpowered the Eagles.
Chris Williams paced Hodgdon with 19 points, while Andrew and Daniel McGillicuddy combined for 31 points and 24 rebounds, with Dan having 17 points and 13 rebounds and Andrew 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Easton 90, East Grand 36 – On Saturday, the Bears led 26-6 to start the game and 44-14 at halftime and 68-22 in the third, overtaking the Vikings at home.
Aaron Henn led the Vikings with 14 points, while Seth Cropley chipped in with 10 points.
Woodland 76, East Grand 42 — Last Thursday in Danforth, the Vikings trailed 34-20 at halftime and 50-25 after the third.
Seth Cropley scored 25 points and Andrew Gilman 10 for East Grand.
Katahdin 72, Ashland 44 – Last Tuesday, the Cougars took a 15-11 lead and built a 34-23 halftime advantage. Over the third, the Cougars extended their margin to 54-28 en route to their first win.
Brandon Robinson led Katahdin with 18 points, while Gallagher netted 16 and Lucas Craig chipped in with 15 more.

Katahdin 69, Hodgdon 33 — On Monday in Stacyville, the Lady Cougars pounced to a 24-8 opening lead and extended it to a halftime cushion, 41-23 en route to the win.
Olivia McNally fired in 38 points to key Katahdin, going 13-for-16 from the free throw line. Kali Rush netted 14, while Melissa Duffy chipped in with eight for the winners.
For Hodgdon, Cierra Willette led Hodgdon with eight points, along with Brittany Davies’ seven.
CAHS 60, SACS 47 — At Dyer Brook, Central Aroostook outscored Southern Aroostook 15-5 in the third quarter, extending their lead to 45-30.
Rachel Grew paced the winners with 20 points, including 13 of her team’s 14 first-quarter points, as they trailed SACS 16-15 before taking a 30-25 halftime advantage. Vicky McIntyre chipped in with 14 points and Kristen Long netted 11.
Liz Goodall led the Lady Warriors with 20 points and Jasmine Rockwell added nine.
Ashland 41, GHCA 19 — The game started slowly Monday night at UMPI, as the Hornets led 7-0 after the first. But, in the second, the Hornets stung for a 25-4 lead and after the third, they led 29-10 en route to the lopsided win.
McKenzie McGuire led the Lady Eagles with seven points.
Houlton 55, Lee 29 — Monday in Lee, the Lady Shires led 27-11 at halftime and built a 41-19 third-quarter led en route to their second win of the season over Lee Academy.
Amanda Fogarty scored 21 points for the Lady Shires, while Vanessa Sanderson scored 11. Martha McPartland and Taylor Bailey each had six points and freshman Marina Cameron netted five in the win.
On Monday, the East Grand teams picked up wins over Acadia Christian. The boys won 67-35 and the girls chalked up a 42-13 win.
Easton 86, East Grand 33 — The Lady Bears held a 39-12 halftime cushion and extended their lead over the third, 62-19 for the win.
Elisha Farley led East Grand with 12 points, while Kaitlyn Beaudoin had eight and Shaunna Beaudoin had five.
SACS 52, Ashland 18 — The host Lady Warriors built a 31-11 halftime lead and a 41-14 third period advantage, cruising to Saturday’s win.
Jasmine Rockwell scored 13 points to pace a balanced scoring effort for Southern Aroostook. Shelby Hartin and Goodall each scored 10 points.
SACS 56, Katahdin 35 — Last Thursday in Dyer Brook, the Lady Warriors built a 21-15 halftime lead and extended it over the third, 40-25 en route to the win.
Goodall led the Lady Warriors with 21 points, while Janel Rockwell added 10 and Jasmine Rockwell chipped in with eight.
For Katahdin, McNally netted 13 points and Brittany Fogarty 11.
Woodland 74, East Grand 6 — The visiting Dragons remained unbeaten as they overtook East Grand last Thursday. The Dragons led 46-4 at half en route to the one-sided win.
Beaudoin had three points and Kim Armstrong two.
Washburn 57, Hodgdon 40 — The host Lady Hawks fell behind 21-7 to start the game and trailed 30-19 at halftime in last Tuesday’s game against Washburn. The Beavers continued to lead after three, 39-27.
Chelsea Sloat racked up 18 points and Willette added 11 more.
Presque Isle 49, Houlton 27 — The Lady Wildcats extended their 13-7 first-quarter lead to a 31-14 halftime cushion last Tuesday in Houlton. After the third, Presque Isle remained ahead 43-23.
Sanderson led Houlton with 11 points, while Taylor Bailey added seven.
