HOULTON — The self-styled “Metro Jethro,” Jon Reep, touring the United States on the heels of a couple of highly successful TV specials will make his way to Houlton April 17 for two shows at the Millar Civic Center.
Paul Cleary, president of the Houlton Fair Association, said Reep “is a new, up-and-coming red neck comedian like Larry the Cable Guy who has taken Jon under his wing and helped promote him and get him some dates for his comedy shows.”
Reep won season five of “Last Comic Standing” and has become a regular on the night club and college circuit with guest spots on TV sitcoms and commercials. He even landed a movie role in “Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay.” But, the coup de grace may have been earning his own high-energy TV special for Comedy Central which re-aired last Saturday night.
Reep’s down-home family type humor and his Hickory, N.C. insights into big city life have earned him a growing list of fans. Reep now finds himself in the company of other very successful comics who have sold out shows in Houlton.
Cleary said “the Fair Association booked Larry the Cable Guy before his stardom took off and he turned out to be a huge success. The same was true about Jeff Dunham and Ron White who also sold out here. It seems they come to Houlton and become successful. I think we have the same type of comedian in Jon Reep.”
Tickets priced at $18, $22 and $27 are available on line at www.houltonfair.com, the Greater Houlton Chamber of Commerce, Dead River I-95 Food Trend at Dunkin Donuts, York’s Book Store and Dead River Food Trend in Presque Isle.
With Christmas approaching and expectations that the Reep show will sell out, Cleary said tickets “make great stocking stuffers for that person who seems to have everything for Christmas because everyone likes to laugh.”
