Howe, Philip M., 88, October 28, 2009. Arrangements by Dunn Funeral Home, Houlton.
Houlton – Philip Mansur Howe, 88, passed away October 28, 2009. He was born Sept. 24, 1921, at Houlton, the son of Dyke Bradford and Jean A. (Mansur) Howe.
Philip was a life long resident of Houlton and was educated in Houlton schools. During his life he had several different businesses and sales positions, but he is probably best remembered as the owner of Howe’s Texaco, which he ran with his sons. He was a member of the Houlton United Methodist Church where he served on the Official Board, the Finance Committee and sang in the choir. Philip was also a member of the Houlton Lodge of Elks #835, the Houlton Odd Fellows Lodge and the Monument Lodge of Masons. Always interested in the community, he served on the Houlton Budget Committee, the Houlton Chamber of Commerce both as a board member and president, and was a member of the HRDC Board. He loved Houlton and its people and has always been someone people could go to for information about the history of both the community and its residents.
Philip is survived by his wife, Carol (Hagan) Howe; daughter, Barbara Howe Hogan and her husband Galen; son, Philip "Mark" Howe and his wife Sylvia; daughter-in-law, Shellie Lucas Howe; eight grandchildren, John Elliott, Elizabeth Elliott Martin, Kevin Hogan, Karen Hogan, SPC Matthew Howe, Jason Howe, Jared Howe and Jamison Howe; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews, each one his favorite. He was predeceased by his daughter, Rosemary Howe Elliott and his son, Brent Hagan Howe.
