With the regular season of high school soccer closing this week, with the final countable day for boys and girls soccer yesterday. The preliminary games are set to begin on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 23 and Oct. 24, with the quarterfinals set for Wednesday, Oct. 28.
The final standings could change, as they will not be released until after Tuesday’s games.
It appears as if the girls pairings could be as follows:
In Class D, the Southern Aroostook Lady Warriors are undefeated at 14-0, sitting in the top position. If Fort Fairfield (7-6-1) stays eighth, the two teams will meet next Wednesday, Oct. 28, in the quarterfinals.
If Ashland (12-2) remains in the second seed, they would host No, 7 Central Aroostook (4-8-2). If Limestone (8-5-1) stays sixth they would travel to No. 3 Deer Isle-Stonington (7-4-3) and if the standings hold, No. 4 Bangor Christian (7-6-1) would host No. 5 Easton (9-4-1).
In Class C girls, there are two preliminary games on Friday, Oct. 23 as the top 10 teams vie in postseason play. If the standings hold, No. 9 Madawaska (8-5-1) would travel to No. 8 Searsport (8-6), with the winner taking on top-ranked Orono (11-2-1); and No. 10 Woodland (10-4) would travel to No. 7 Foxcroft (8-5-1), with the winner traveling to No. 2 Fort Kent (10-2-1).
If Houlton (11-2) stays sixth, they would travel to No. 3 Central of East Corinth (11-3)), while No. 5 George Stevens (8-5-1) would travel to No. 4 Washington Academy (11-3).
There are only two boys teams that will be playoff bound. If the standings stay as they are, the following teams would meet in the playoffs.
In Class C boys, No. 1 Madawaska (11-2-1) would host the winner of No. 8 Penquis (7-6-1)/No. 9 George Stevens (6-7-1), while No. 2 Fort Kent (9-3-2) would host the winner of No. 7 Foxcroft (7-4-3)/No. 10 Dexter (6-8).
The boys preliminaries will be played on Saturday, Oct. 24.
If Orono (12-1-1) stays fourth, they would host No. 5 PVHS (14-0) and if the standings hold, No. 3 Washington Academy (14-0) would host No. 6 Houlton (9-2-2).
In Class D, which takes the top 10 teams, No. 1 Calvary (11-2-1) awaits the winner of No. 8 Shead (8-6)/No. 9 Deer Isle-Stonington (9-3-2) and No. 2 Ashland (11-3) would play the winner of No. 7 Wisdom (10-4) /No. 10 Jonesport-Beals (7-6). No. 4 Central Aroostook (11-3) would host No. 5 Machias (9-4-1) and No. 6 Southern Aroostook (11-3) would travel to No. 3 Bangor Christian (11-2).
