The Houlton Parks & Recreation Department will open the Gentle Memorial Building gym and game room for the fall and winter season on Oct. 13. Information on season passes, open gym hours, rules and general information for the center are listed below. Anyone with questions may contact the recreation department at 532-1310.
Season Passes: Again this year, students may purchase a game room season pass, which entitles a youth to use the pool and ping pong tables throughout the open game room season. This does not include coin-operated games. Cost is $15 for Houlton residents and $20 for non-Houlton residents. If a youth does not invest in a season pass, the price for the use of the pool/ping pong table is 50 cents for 15 minutes.
Game Room open hours are Monday – Friday from 2:45-5 p.m.; Friday, 6-8 p.m.; Saturday, 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and Sunday, 1-4 p.m.
Gym open hours are Monday –Friday from 2:30-5 p.m.; Friday, 6-8 p.m.; Saturday, 1-4 p.m. and 608 p.m. and Sunday, 1-4 p.m.
Rules and General Information: Adult and youth supervisors will be provided at all open gym and game room hours.
Any child in Grade 1 or younger must be accompanied by an adult to be at the recreation center for open gym and game room hours. Any youth in grade 6 or younger must be accompanied by an adult to be at the recreation center past 5 p.m., unless attending a scheduled practice or activity.
Once you are in, you stay in rule is in place at the center.
High School graduated age individuals are not allowed at the recreation center at the above stated hours. Adult hours are Monday and Wednesday from 7:30-9 p.m.
Parents will be contacted if a youth is asked to leave the recreation center due to bad or inappropriate behavior.
There is a phone if your child needs to make a call.
After School Fun Program
The Houlton Recreation Department will be offering their After School Fun Program again this fall. Youth in Grades K–4 are invited to attend. The program runs each Tuesday and Thursday from 3-4:30 p.m. at the recreation center. The program includes crafts, games, contests, snacks and more. Parents may select one or two day programs. This program will run for eight weeks. Cost for the one-day programs is $25 for Houlton residents/$38 for non-Houlton residents, while the two-day program is $50 for Houlton residents/$75 for non-Houlton residents.
To register a child, call the Houlton Recreation Department at 532-1310 by Oct. 7. The program will begin on Tuesday, Oct. 13. This program is limited to 20 children per day. For more information, contact the Houlton Recreation Department.
Parent & Tot Time
The Houlton Recreation Department will once again hold the Parent & Tot Time. This activity will begin on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at the rec center. The time for this activity will be 8:30-10 a.m. each Tuesday and Thursday mornings. This unstructured play time gives parents and tots the opportunity to meet new friends. Some toys will be available or families can bring their own. There is no charge for this activity.
Walking Times
The Houlton Recreation Department will open for walkers on Tuesday, Oct. 13 from 10 – 1p.m. This free activity allows individuals to walk inside throughout the fall and winter months. Participants are asked to wear sneakers or soft soled shoes in the gym.
Men’s open gym
Men’s open gym will begin on Wednesday, Oct. 14 from 7-8:30 p.m. Cost will be $2 per player. Players must be 18 years of age or older and out of high school to participate. Men’s nights will be held each Monday and Wednesday.
Women’s open gym
Women’s open gym will begin on Tuesday, Oct. 20 from 7-8:30 p.m. Cost will be $2 per player. Players must be 18 years of age or older and out of high school to participate.
Early release school days
The Houlton Recreation Department will offer the Early Release School Day program to area families in the SAD 29 school system. The program will be held on Oct. 21, Jan. 28 and April 7 from 11:30-4 p.m. Each day will be filled with crafts, games, contest, movies, snack and more. Children in grades K–6 are invited to participate in this program. Cost is $8 for Houlton residents/$12 for non-Houlton residents per day. There will be a limit of 40 children per day for this program. To register, call the Houlton Recreation Department at 532-1310 by Oct. 14.
Nordic Ski Rentals
Mojo is offering Nordic Ski Rental packages again this year in the Houlton area. A peson must be present to be sized for rentals on Thursday, Oct. 15 between 4-6 p.m. at the Houlton Recreation Center. This year’s packages are $50 for students and $75 for adults, which includes the skis, boots and poles for the winter. For more information, contact the Houlton Recreation Department at 532-1310.
