Island Falls Happenings

Marian (Grant) Burton and husband, Don, have returned to their home in Rancho Cordovaa, Calif. after spending the summer months at their cottage on Upper Mattawamkeag Lake. They had a busy summer, with visiting family and friends and hate to see it end but look forward to returning when June arrives.
Tom Hawkes and son, Chris, arrived one day last week to finish the chores around my house and got them all done except for one last thing, which means that they will return before the snow flies.
Whittier Congregational Church will soon celebrate being 150 years old and plans are in progress already to commemorate the day, and October 18 has been chosen for this special occasion, and committees have been chosen to help co-ordinate the whole thing. Everyone is looking forward to enjoying this very special day.
Finally, I have dug all my frostbitten flowers out of my flower garden; dug up some unwanted plants; and gotten my gardens in shape for next summer. I then went out and did a bit of lawn mowing where the grass had gotten too high. I stopped putting out too many sunflower seeds as the coons are now around and getting into the feeders. Haven’t seen the black cat the past two days and I guess he is now staying home, instead of wandering around the neighborhood. Have had the three deer in my back yard several times lately but they haven’t gotten too close to the house yet. Have gold finch back in my feeders already, along with the pesky blue jays, and still have my faithful chickadees to watch.
