Looking down, looking up

To the editor:
There is much going on around and about Houlton to make our town even more pleasant.
Who can remember when so many streets (4.75 miles) and sidewalks (3.5 miles) have been made so much better in one year? While maybe we don’t look down at the streets, we sure feel the more comfortable ride as we pass over them.  Hats off to the Public Works Department and Steelstone Industries.
Sometimes we don’t look up at what is right before us as we frequently pass, and if we do, we still don’t see what is new.
Work was being done on the front porch of the Elk’s Lodge Building earlier this summer. How many look up now and notice the elegant Doric columns with their fluted shafts which now adorn their front porch. They are worth a second look. Congratulations to the Elks Lodge and a great job done by Nelson Construction.
Look up at the south and east side of the Aroostook County Courthouse and observe the newly painted silver Mansard roof. Dave Tuttle and his crew are doing a fine job which is ongoing and will be completed next spring. Thanks to Commissioner Paul Adams for keeping our county building looking shipshape.
Houlton is looking good. Doesn’t that make you feel a little better about your hometown?
