    Gregory A. Sherwood passed from earthly life on Oct. 4, 2009, in Virginia Beach, VA. He was born in Houlton, ME on March 12, 1956, to Sidney E. and Lorraine E. (Kelley) Sherwood.
    He attended grammar school in Houlton and graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1974. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the US Navy Construction Battalion (Sea Bees) and served honorably six years. During this period, he received various certifications in heavy equipment maintenance. After his Naval service, he was employed by Hertz Heavy Equipment, Corp. from which he retired. Subsequently, he held similar positions in this or a comparable field.
    He is survived by his mother, Lorraine Sherwood of Presque Isle, ME; a sister, Bonnie Hastey of New Limerick, ME; a brother, Sidney Richard and wife Jerriann of Houlton; sons, Jason Lavaway and wife Sara and Allen Sherwood of Virginia Beach; and daughter, Crystal Sherwood Dodge of Virginia Beach; three grandchildren; and a host of friends. He was predeceased by his father, Sidney E. and brothers, Ronald and Calvin Sherwood.
    Funeral services will be held at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home Lynnhaven Chapel at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2009, where family will receive friends one hour prior. Burial will be at Fairmount Cemetery in Presque Isle, ME on Saturday, October 10, 2009, at 11 a.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
