Salvation Army Capt. Irma Pearl, left, accepts a $100 check from Deacon Jessie Drysdale who says the Church of the Good Shepherd in Houlton tithes most of its projects. “This was from our pie and ice cream sale in August and it’s our pleasure to give this to the oil fund.” Pearl says although August is usually a slow month, the clientele tripled to about 80 families due to unemployment and layoffs. Anyone interested in supporting the oil fund can contact the Salvation Army at 532- 2322.
