Hodgdon golfers defeated at Portage and Mars Hill

    At Portage Hills Country Club Monday, the Ashland Hornets (5-0) won their fifth straight match on the season with a near shutout over Hodgdon, gaining 10.5 of the 11 possible points.
    Ashland’s Mark Corella was medalist on the day with his round of 39. Ashland’s team stroke total was 267, while Hodgdon’s was 308.
    The individual results, with Hornets listed first, were: Corella (39) defeated Chris Williams (52); Jordan Beaulier (54) beat A.J. Acott (65); Dylan Cyr-Cormier (58) bested Paul Griffin (63); Taylor Condon (60) tied with Chris Wallace (60); and Amos Ward (56) beat Nick Lunn (68).
    The Central Aroostook Panthers golf team defeated Hodgdon, 7-4, last Wednesday at Mars Hill Country Club for their third conseucutive win to start the season.
    The Panthers’ Will Delong was low medalist shooting a 46.
    Central Aroostook’s Kaine Kingsbury shot a 53 and split both match and medal play points with Williams, who shot a 53.
    Delong won both points against Acott, who shot a 63, while Panther Logan McLaughlin scored a 59, losing both points to Griffin, who shot a 49.
    Abe Brewer tallied a 60 and split both match and medal play points with Wallace, who also shot a 60. Tim Lawrence carded a 62 and won both points against Lunn, who carded a 65.
    Scoring in match play golf has two points awarded to a team for each individual golfer who wins his or her match.
    One point is awarded for match play and another point is given to the medalist of the day. The four lowest scores are totaled and which ever team has the lowest total score receives a point. There is a total of 11 points that can be won in each match.
