Camp Living Waters recently took a canoe trip, which began on Attikamagen Lake in Labrador and ended on the De Pas river, a tributary of the George River in Quebec. ALL ABOARD – The Living Waters crew gets ready to board this north bound train on their way to the De Pas river in northern Quebec.
RARE SIGHT – A young bald eagle was spotted in its nest, while the Living Waters crew took a lunch break at the head of a rapid on the De Pas River.
PORTAGE – Campers carry canoes and gear across one of several portage trails on their way to the De Pas River in Quebec.
GOOD SIZED CATCH – 15-year-old Vance Gustin of Merrill caught a 19-inch brook trout while using his fly fishing pole. Gustin used a small Woods Special streamer to catch his trout. While the crew had several meals that included brook trout, this trout lived to swim another day.
CATCH AND RELEASE – Bob Constable of Unity poses with a large brook trout he caught and released, while fishing the mouth of a stream on the De Pas River. Constable at the age of 74 recently tested and received his Maine Guide license. He is one of many trip leaders who assist Living Waters on wilderness canoe trips throughout the summer. He also recently took a 36-hour course in Wilderness Advanced First Aid with Wilderness Medical Associates and is a certified trip leader with the camp.
