The 2009 Memorial Tournament, held last Saturday was another success as 48 players played golf to benefit course beautification. The team of Parker Sanderson, Ian Gervais, Josh McGuire and Nick Chase made 10 birdies and an eagle to post a 12 under par 60 to win the tournament. Finishing second with a gross score of eight under 64 was the team of Greg Palmer, Mike Fleming, Dave Edgar and Peter Stanley. The net champions were the team of Wayne (Sandy) Quint, Matt Quint, Ethan Quint and Ben Flewelling.  Second place net went to the team of Cindy and Wayne Floyd and Billy and Louann Dwyer.
    The next big event at HCGC is the annual June Jamboree on Saturday, June 20 starting at 7:45 a.m.  This Member/Member-Member/Guest event is 18 holes, with nine holes of scramble and nine holes of best ball. Get a partner and sign up now for this fun and popular tournament.
Men’s and Ladies’ Twilight Leagues begin next week. The Men’s League begins Monday, June 8 and Ladies’ League starts Tuesday, June 9.  Schedules for both leagues will be posted on the bulletin board on Friday, June 5.
The longtime and popular Friday Night Couples League will also begin its season next Friday night, June 12  at 5:30 p.m. This fun event is held each Friday night with a different golf game and is followed by some wonderful food. So get your spouse or “other” and join us for an entertaining evening. You do not have to commit to every week to be a part of our league.
Junior Golf, the popular youth golf clinic, will begin on Tuesday, June 30  with registration at the driving range.  The clinic will be held each Monday morning after that, with two divisions this year:  the 8-10 year olds will go from 8-9:30 a.m., followed by the 11-15 year olds from 9:30-11 a.m.  Cost of the eight week clinic is $40 each. Sign your child up now by calling the clubhouse at 532-2662.
Finally,  it is not too early to sign up your four-person scramble team for the fifth annual Houlton High School Alumni Scramble, which will be held this year on Friday, July 3 at 9 a.m.  This nine-hole event fills up quickly and is limited to 15 teams, so sign up now at the clubhouse or see our Web site at  www.houltongolf.com.
