Katahdin High School honor parts 2009

Image    It is with great pleasure that officials at Katahdin High School have announced Matthew Kay as Valedictorian of the Class of 2009. Kay is the son of David Kay and the late Mary Kay. He plans to attend the University of Maine at Orono and major in chemical engineering. Kay has been vice-president and president of Student Council and National Honor Society. He has also played varsity soccer, playing on the 2008 state championship, Class D team last fall.
Image    Richard Qualey is Salutatorian of the Class of 2009. He is the son of James and Deborah Qualey of Benedicta. Qualey plans to attend the University of Maine at Orono and major in English. Qualey is a member of the student council, prom committee and is the treasurer for the National Honor Society. He has played varsity basketball, volleyball, and was on the baseball team, that won the Eastern ME Championship, Class D 2008; he also played on the varsity soccer team, that won the State championship, Class D this year. He has also been a church lector and church altar server.
    The following students, listed in alphabetical order, are honor students of the Class of 2009:
    Krista Adams is the daughter of Rick and Gina Adams of Sherman. She participated in cheerleading and softball.
    Jade Clippinger, the daughter of Donald and Rochelle Clippinger of Patten plans to attend Eastern Maine Community College to major in business management. Clippinger has been involved in volunteer work at soup kitchens, at the nursing home and raised money for Make a Wish Foundation, Tsunami relief, St. Jude’s Hospital, Red Cross and the animal shelter.
    Marshall Davis, the son of Robin Davis of Patten and Jim Davis of Jensen Beach, Fla. plans to attend Husson University to major in physical therapy. He has been a member of the National Honor Society, Jazz Band, and Pep Band. Davis has played varsity soccer; the team won the state championship, Class D this year. He served as captain while earning “Player of the Year for 2008”. Davis was a member of the Eastern Maine Class D all-star soccer team, Eastern Maine all-state soccer team, Penobscot Valley all-star soccer team and All Aroostook all-star soccer team.
    Kaleb Gallagher, the son of Cecil and Lynn Gallagher of Patten plans to attend Baran Institute in Connecticut to major in welding. Gallagher played varsity soccer; the team won the State championship, Class D this year. He also plays varsity baseball; the team won Eastern ME champions, Class D 2008.
    Jenna Guiggey, the daughter of Steve and Lorraine Guiggey of Sherman plans to attend University of Southern Maine to major in music education. Guiggey has been a member of National Honor Society and served as secretary of Student Council, vice-president of her class, Civil Rights Team, Prom Committee, All-Aroostook and All-State Chorus, Jazz Band and yearbook editor. She also sang the National Anthem at sporting events. Guiggey has worked at Living Waters Bible Conference as a summer co-counselor.
    Joshua Guiggey, the son of Angela and Lonnie Guiggey plans to attend the University of Maine at Orono to major in biochemistry/pre-pharmacy. He has been involved in Students against Destructive Decisions, Southern Aroostook Tobacco Outreach Program, Ski Club, National Honor Society and yearbook committee. He has participated in All-Aroostook league golf; All-Aroostook league baseball; All Penobscot Valley conference baseball; varsity golf and basketball. He also played on the varsity baseball team that was the 2008 Eastern Maine Class D champions.
    Andrew Hawkins, the son of Stephen and Angie Hawkins of Patten plans to attend the University of Maine at Orono to major in biochemistry/pre-pharmacy. Hawkins played varsity baseball and was a member of the 2008 Eastern Maine Champion, Class D team. He also played varsity basketball and golf. He was a member of National Honor Society, prom committee and Spanish Club.
    Marie Heath, the daughter of Robert and Rosalie Heath of Sherman, plans to attend Husson University to major in business finance. Heath has been a member of National Honor Society, prom committee, class officer, and Student Council. She has played varsity soccer and basketball. Heath has volunteered her time to tutor and has been a volunteer for Pennies for Patients, Battered Women’s Shelter and raked leaves for an area church.

Kay has played on the varsity baseball team and was a member of the Eastern Maine Class D champions in 2008. He is also a member of the National Honor Society.
    Gage Lake, the son of Mark and Lori Lake of Stacyville has joined the Army National Guard and is planning to leave for basic training in August, after which he will attend Husson University to major in criminal justice. Lake played varsity basketball and was involved in ski club.
    Brooke Livezey, the daughter of Bill and Gail Livezey of Sherman, plans to attend Lancaster Bible College and major in elementary education. She has been a member of Student Council, Students against Destructive Decisions, and the prom committee. Livesay has played varsity soccer and has volunteered at Living Water Bible Camp as a kitchen staff and a camp counselor.
    Matthew McAvoy, the son of Tammy Cullins of Sherman and Frank McAvoy of Sherman plans to attend the University of Maine at Orono to major in business administration. McAvoy played varsity baseball and was a member of the 2008 Eastern Maine Championship team, Class D. He also played basketball. McAvoy has been a member of the chorus and has been involved in Calvary Baptist Church youth group.
    Evan McCarthy, the son of Martin and Rachel McCarthy of Patten, plans to attend the University of Maine at Orono to major in chemistry. He has been a member of National Honor Society, served as senior class president and been a member of the prom committee. McCarthy has played varsity golf, basketball, and has been the Aroostook League golf champion for the past two years. He also played on the varsity baseball team, and a member of the 2008 Eastern Maine Class D Champions.
    JaLisa Moore, the daughter of Jay and Lisa Moore of Sherman, plans to attend University of Maine at Orono to major in nursing. Moore has been a member of National Honors Society and attended Close-up in Washington, DC. She has played varsity basketball, soccer, and volleyball.
    Delayne Pokorny, the daughter of Joe and Anita Pokorny of Sherman, plans to attend the University of Maine to major in psychology. Porkorny has played varsity soccer and softball. She has been a volunteer for gymnastics, Children Labor Day Games, senior bottle drive, spaghetti supper, car washes and bandstand fund-raisers.
    Ethan Qualey, the son of Daniel and Cindy Qualey of Benedicta, plans to attend Husson University to major in physical therapy. Qualey has played varsity basketball, volleyball, and soccer; the soccer team won the state championship, Class D this year. He has been involved in student council his freshman year and also served as class treasurer his freshman and sophomore year. Qualey is involved in youth ministry, Christian Leadership Institute and Advanced Christian Leadership Institute.
    Mary-Jo Robinson, the daughter of Ronnie and Samantha Robinson of Benedicta, plans to attend Syracuse University to major in psychology. Robinson has played varsity soccer, basketball, and softball. She has served as class president, class secretary and been a member of Student Council. Robinson has also been involved in Students against Destructive Decisions, Southern Aroostook Tobacco Outreach Programs, Civil Rights Team, Spanish Club, Maine Youth Leadership Alumni, Jazz Band, Pep Band and All Aroostook Chorus. She has been involved in Make a Difference Day, Manna Ministries, Battered Women’s Shelter, Vacation Bible School Volunteer and Maine Youth Leadership Service Project.
    Jesse Rodgerson, the son of Douglas and Brenda Rodgerson of Patten plans to attend the University of Maine at Orono to major in engineering. Rodgerson has played varsity basketball, volleyball and soccer; the team won the State Championship, Class D this year. He is also an Eagle Scout.
