East Grand announces 2009 honor parts

    Principal David Apgar at East Grand School is pleased to announce the Honor Parts for the Class of 2009.
Image    Kelsey Daoust, Valedictorian, is the daughter of Loree and Earl Ross of Danforth and Conrad Daoust III of Farmington. She is a member of the National Honor Society, class treasurer and also served as class secretary her freshman year. She played varsity basketball, soccer and softball. She has been involved in Community Clean-Up and Christmas for Kids.
    Daoust has received the Presidential Award for Academic Excellence and the Presidential Award for Outstanding Academics. She has also received awards for academic excellence in history and math.  She will attend the University of Maine at Presque Isle in the fall where she will pursue a degree in elementary education.
Image     Kallie Shay, Salutatorian, is the daughter of Larry and Lorrie Shay of Danforth. She is a member of the National Honor Society, is currently class president. She was class president her junior and sophomore year and vice president her freshman year. She has been an active member of the Student Council during her four years in high school, currently serving as president and previously as vice president.  
    Shay has been involved in Community Clean-Up and Christmas for Kids. She was a member of the yearbook staff her junior and senior years, serving as editor her senior year.  
    Shay plans to attend Washington County Community College where she will pursue an associate’s degree in medical assisting.
Image     Benjamin Latvis, First Honor Essayist, is the son of Andrew and Louise Latvis of Orient. During high school, he was a member of the varsity soccer team his sophomore, junior and senior years. He was a member of Maine Youth Voices, a grant-funded youth organization dedicated to creating the opportunity for youth to proactively engage in prevention strategies surrounding underage alcohol use in the school and community for three years.
    Latvis has participated in the Outdoor Education Program and was an outdoor ed mentor during his senior year. He was also a member of the student council his sophomore and senior years. He will attend Maine Maritime Academy in the fall where he will pursue a degree in marine biology.
Image    Matthew Steeves, Second Honor Essayist, is the son of Michael and Cheryl Steeves of Weston. He was a member of the varsity baseball team for four years and also a member of the student council. He has also participated in Community Clean-Up.
    Steeves plans to attend Eastern Maine Community College in the fall where he will study diesel mechanics.
