Local events for Memorial Day

Houlton

    In Houlton, Memorial Day events being organized by the American Legion Post 47 will start at 9:30 a.m. with a ceremony at Soldier’s Hill at the Evergreen Cemetery on Smyrna Street.
    At 10:30 a.m. all units will assemble at the TDBanknorth parking lot for the parade. The parade will pause at the North Street Bridge to lay a wreath in honor of those who died at sea.
    The route will continue through Market Square to Monument Park for the 11 a.m. ceremony. The ceremony honors all veterans and especially those that gave their lives in service to their country.
    Following this ceremony there will be a dedication of a new flagpole at the Houlton United Methodist Church in memory of Gerald and Barbara Gardner.
    After the activities refreshments will be served at the American Legion post on the Bangor Road.

Oakfield

    American Legion Post No. 52 Memorial Day activities begin at 9 a.m. at the cemetery and parade starts at 10 a.m. at the Community Center. FMI call 757-8785 or 757-8546.
