2009 Southern Aroostook honor parts

    Principal Jonathan Porter at Southern Aroostook Community School is pleased to announce the Honor Parts for the Class of 2009. Image    Emma Senzek, Valedictorian, is the daughter of Randy and Stacey Emery of Crystal. Emma is a member of the National Honor Society. She attended Girls State, was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Association of Maine, and was Maine Youth Leadership runner-up. Senzek was most recently chosen to receive the Maine Principals’ Award. Her honors/awards include outstanding achievement in trigonometry, excellence in college world history, and outstanding achievement in French. Senzek was nominated Student of the Quarter for four consecutive years. She also was chosen All-East Soccer in 2008.  
    Senzek plans to attend Husson University in the fall majoring in accounting.
Image     Brittany Charette, Salutatorian, is the daughter of Michael and Michelle Charette of Crystal. She is a member of the National Honor Society. She was also the recipient of the DAR Good Citizenship Award, attended Girls State, Maine Youth Leadership and has been nominated by her peers and staff for Student of the Quarter throughout high school. Her co-curricular activities include varsity basketball, softball and soccer. In these sports, she has received All-Aroostook, All-East in soccer, McDonald’s All-star in basketball and the Butch Shaw Memorial Soccer Award.  She also received the School Spirit Award. Charette has also volunteered with various functions in the community.  
    Charette plans to either attend Husson University or University of Maine at Orono, pursuing a masters degree in business.   
Image    Jennifer M. Bustard, First Honor Essayist, is the daughter of Andrew and Jill Bustard of Merrill. She is a member of the National Honor Society and is involved with Dollars for Scholars. Bustard has been on the honor roll throughout her high school years. She has also held leadership positions as secretary, vice president and president of her class.  She participated in 2008 Houlton Rotary Club and has helped with the annual Blood Drive held at Southern Aroostook Community School. Bustard’s honors/activities include excellence in Spanish I and II, excellence in college algebra I and II, and she received third place in the 2007 Science Fair. She also played basketball for two years. Bustard has completed the CNA course and is currently employed at Madigan Estates.
  She has been accepted at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, where she will major in medical laboratory technology.
Image     Heather Karikala, Second Honor Essayist, is the daughter of Moses and Stephanie Karikala of Mattawamkeag. Karikala participated in Dollars for Scholars her senior year and just recently was in the drama production, “Puttin on the Hits.”  She also received an Academic Achievement Award.  
    Karikala plans to attend college at the University of Maine at Presque Isle and major in psychology.
