Bates, is sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association and is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.
Throughout his years at Katahdin High School, Kay has distinguished himself in the classroom, as well as being president of National Honor Society and president of Student Council. He has received the Phi Beta Kappa Award and the F.L.A.M.E. Award.
Kay, Rae Bates, and other award winners and their principals attended an honors luncheon at the Spectacular Event Center in Bangor on April 4.
The Luncheon recognizes these outstanding students with a presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of five $1000 scholarships in the names of Horace O. McGowan and Richard W. Tyler. McGowan and Tyler were former Maine principals and executive directors of the Association.
The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 140 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine’s school administrators.
