Deborah Stewart, 57 former superintendent of the Hodgdon school district passed away unexpectedly on March 25 in Belfast.
Stewart, born in Presque Isle to Carol and Harold “Bud” Stewart graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1969 and then received a bachelor of science degree in education from Lesley College in Cambridge, Mass.
Stewart went on to earn her masters degree in education from the University of Maine.
She taught in North Carolina and Maine and furthered her education at Vanderbilt University in Nashville where she received her doctorate degree.
After returning to Maine she held a variety of positions including; those in administration and curriculum development in Skowhegan and at SAD 55 in Hiram. She served as superintendent of schools in Union 96, Sullivan; SAD 70, Hodgdon; SAD 37, Harrington and most recently in Union 69, Hope which includes the towns of Appleton and Lincolnville.
Stewart was the Hodgdon superintendent from 1996 until 2005.
Survivors include, her father and brother, Hal and his family all of Presque Isle.
