I would like to remind parents and others dropping children off at school in the morning to bear to the left when entering the school driveway. Cars are not to follow busses to the right of the driveway. Some parents have been passing school busses and may face a fine. It is never all right to pass a school bus when the bus has its red lights flashing.
New to the Mill Pond School last week is the feature of having the front door locked. With the layout of the building and the location of the office, people can enter the building and use two hallways without being seen by administration or office staff. This project of locking the front doors has been scheduled to be completed since the beginning of the school year.
For the safety of students and school staff, it is imperative for administration to know who is in the building at all times. Because of the excessive expense of moving offices to the front of the building, locking the front door was the most reasonable solution.
We do want to assure parents that an incident has not occurred which resulted in this action, but simply the fact we want to be alerted when people enter the building. When parents wish to enter the building they should simply use the doorbell located on the right side of the door and the office staff will release the door lock so they may enter.
We would like to thank Ezekial Collins and Steve Nason for presenting a parent forum on protecting children from Internet predators. They discussed how children may innocently provide information to predators without realizing what the end result may be.
Parents were encouraged to keep lines of communication open with their children regarding the use of computers and the Internet.
We would like to recognize and congratulate J’lynn Goldston for placing first in the county dental poster contest. Her winning poster will be displayed for one week at the Aroostook Centre Mall in Presque Isle. The poster will then be sent to Augusta and entered in the dental poster contest at the state level. Mallory Williams placed second in the County contest at the kindergarten level.
Last Thursday evening, our gymnasium was buzzing with many activities recognizing Dr. Seuss and his contribution to children’s book. Mrs. Harbison, Mrs. Sattler, and Mrs. Sylvain were guest readers. Students were involved in activities and made crafts related to the books read. The students enjoyed a snack before leaving. I would like to thank Mrs. Foster for organizing our monthly reading nights.
The adult education program has partnered with Maine Parent Federation to bring two interesting workshops to our school which will assist parents in meeting the academic needs of their child.

The second session is geared for parents of students in kindergarten through fifth grades. This workshop will be held on Monday, April 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the Mill Pond School library.
Those wishing to attend either of these sessions will need to contact Mrs. Foster at 532-9228 or e-mail rfoster@staff.msad70.net.
