The volunteer Monticello firemen have just finished a grueling 88 hours of basic firefighting procedures instructed by certified state firefighter trainers.
The course included programs in the proper handling of ladders, personal protection equipment, and techniques for the proper way of removing fire victims. They learned more about search and rescue, hydraulic venting, and many other important procedures to ensure the safety of personnel.

Missing from the group was Mike Swimm.
The group also learned fire behavior, such as flash over and the ability of being able to read the signals at the initial arrival at the scene.
Bruce Harvey, Mike Jewell, Shawn Matheson, Bill Lambert, Chief Morris Pinnett, and Andy Lynds also completed a 12 hours pump school program instructed by Glen Miller of Houlton.
This training has reinforced the importance of working as a team and provided each member with extensive knowledge in dealing with emergency situations.
Paul Steward and Bob Jackson provided this additional support program, and Tim Bray provided training for the CPR, First-Aid and AED training. This most recent training received high praise from the volunteers.
The Monticello firemen will continue the First Responder training in order to better assist at emergency situations.
