Knights recognize players, to enter float in parade

    The Cleary Law Knights football team celebrated its winning season at poolside at Gervais Motor Inn and Suites on Saturday Nov. 23. The team made the playoffs for the third year in a row.

    During the celebration Assistant Coach Richard Cleary extended a thank you to all the supporters this year, along with the community.
    Special thanks went to the Town of Houlton for the use of the baseball field for practices and games, also to the Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians for the use of their field for practices and to Pizza Hut of Houlton for supporting the boys throughout the year with donations of pizza.
     Individual players who received awards and were acknowledged for their efforts, both on and off the field were Brandon McGuire, John Smith, Phil Brown, Ben Hopewell, and Chris Steeves, with senior award trophies.
    McGuire, Chris Ruth, Justin Ramsay, Eddie Flint, and Steeves all received varsity captain trophies, while Brian Tuttle, Tim Chase, Daniel Coville and James Grant all received junior varsity captain trophies.
     Individual awards were also presented to Caleb Black for 485 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns (after missing three games due to injuries); Ruth for 340 passing/rushing yards, 14 touchdowns, three sacks, and three interceptions; McGuire for 311 passing/receiving/rushing yards, nine touchdowns, three interceptions and a sack; Flint for 283 receiving/rushing yards, six touchdowns, eight interceptions/blocked passes, a sack, 29 tackles and tow defensive touchdowns; Brown for three sacks and 33 tackles; Ryan Pickle for four sacks and 29 tackles; Steeves for two touchbacks, two sacks, a safety and 61 tackles; and Ramsay for 33 tackles.
     Also awards were given to Caleb Black for Most Improved Player on the varsity; Smith for Sportsmanship for varsity, and Steeves Most Valuable Player for varsity. Chase was the Most Improved Player on junior varsity, while Tuttle received Sportsmanship for junior varsity and Zach Mailloux was the junior varsity’s Most Valuable Player.
     Coach Brian Reynolds said he was pleased with the season and looks forward to next year. Stephanie McGuffin, team mom, said, “We would like to thank the entire community of Houlton, Hodgdon, Cary, New Limerick, Littleton, and Monticello for the continued support.”
    The Knights football team will next be in action during the Houlton Light Parade on November 29 where they intend to enter a float.
