Former Houlton businessman honored

In October 2007, Houlton lost well-known businessman, A. Otis Putnam. Putnam an owner of Putnam Brothers Company, a dealer in Gulf Oil products had been very active in civic affairs.
    After Putnam’s death, Kay Bell, the chairman of Houlton’s Bicentennial Tree project was notified of a donation in his memory.
Britni Laflamme, customer service representative for Burt Process Company in Tyngsboro, Mass. initiated a special memorial fund in Putnam’s memory.
Putnam’s youngest son, Kimball is the New England regional manager for the company. Many of his colleagues, clients, including the Flowline Company contributed to this project.
With the assistance of Bell, a tree was purchased and planted in Riverfront Park. In the spring of 2009 a stone mill wheel will be placed near the tree and at that time a bronze plaque will be attached to it.
The plaque reads as follows; In Memory of A.Otis Putnam, Jr., 1922-2007, lovingly remembered by his children and grandchildren.
