To the editor:
I’m writing to enthusiastically endorse the reelection of State Representative Henry Joy. Residents of House District 9 have been well served by Rep. Joy in the past, and he enjoys a position of high respect in the Legislature, where he is known as a strong advocate for taxpayers and common sense. He also works tirelessly on issues of importance to rural Mainers.
Henry’s dedication to his legislative duties is reflected his very strong 95 percent voting record on roll call votes in the House. He also votes in support of Maine’s business community and to bring greater economic development to the state. His pro-business record is so consistent that he has received a 100 percent rating from the National Federation if Independent Business and a very strong score of 93 from the Maine Economic Research Institute.
Henry has voted to reform our broken health insurance system, which imposes the second-highest premiums in the country. He voted against the new $75 million “Dirigo tax” on beverages and health care services, which the majority party passed in the dark of night and without a public hearing. He also voted to overhaul Maine’s driver’s license rules so that licenses can only be issued to Maine residents who are in the country legally. Previously, Maine issued licenses to illegal aliens and people who didn’t even live in Maine.
Legislators on both sides of the aisle depend on Henry’s sound advice and counsel on complicated and difficult issue. He is an outstanding legislator who has more than earned another term in office.
Rep. Josh Tardy
