Members of Houlton Band trek to Katahdin

On August 23, 18 participants from the Houlton Band of Maliseets began the 65-mile trek from the Maliseet Recreation Center to Mt. Katahdin.
    The “trekkers” began their journey with a song for strength from the Four Winds Drum Group. The Tribal Elders led the group as participants took turns biking, walking, and running until they arrived at the base of Mt. Katahdin.
The evening included a barbecue, swimming, awards and drumming. Participating in the Trek To Katahdin Relay were Betty Joseph, Danya Boyce, Louie Tomah, Anthony Flewelling, Lisa Hardy, Brian Raymond, Cheyenne Raymond, Luke Joseph, Rhonda Ireland, Alexis Ireland, Darcy Gentle, Tyra Gentle, Amber Howe, Isaac St. John, Sam St. John, Amelia St. John, Francis Frederick and Leonard Devoe.
At the end of the trek to Mt. Katahdin, the Four Winds Drum Group drummed.
