BUSINESS RELOCATES — Five Elements Healing Arts Center has relocated to 54 Main Street Houlton. Chamber of Commerce Director, Lori Weston and board members joined in the ribbon cutting Sept.12 at the grand re-opening. Board members at the ceremony were, from left: Jane Torres, Ann Callnan, Karen Fitzpatrick, Weston, Sam Henderson, Debbie Henderson, and Chuck Ames; Linda Rowe, certified registered yoga teacher; and Heather Blue, licensed massage therapist. Not pictured are; Jane Oliver-Moody, licensed massage therapist and Jerry Levine, guide for Tai Chi and Qi Kong.
Perhaps Chamber board member, Chuck Ames says it best, “This is a jewel in the community.”
The Five Elements Healing Arts Center has relocated to the second floor above Sage Financial in downtown Houlton. It had previously been home to the former John Watson Hardware Co. and George S. Gentle Insurance Agency. Gone is the look from long ago, and in its place fresh paint, plants, music, two spacious studios, three bodywork rooms and a multi-purpose room.
Jane Oliver-Moody and Linda Hutchinson Rowe had a dream several years ago to have a place for people who understood the boundless benefits of self-care and preventive care to go.
“When you do what you have always done, you get what you have always got,” said yoga instructor, Rowe. “Maybe it’s time for a change from how we take care of ourselves, whether you are a truck driver, a lawyer, a housewife or a CEO.”
Five Elements is a cooperative of individual businesses, with Rowe as director. So far, the Five Elements center includes: Oliver-Moody and Heather Blue, both licensed massage therapists; Rowe, certified yoga teacher and Jerry Levine, guide for Tai Chi (a series of slow movements linked together) and Qi Kong (exercises that work the physical body and move one’s energy). They are also looking to partner with other presenters and teachers who might like to join their group.
Upcoming specials and events include: a Grand Re-Opening Celebration on Saturday, Sept. 20 from 1-7 p.m. Activities for the day include: free chair massages, Reike sessions, a free Qi Kong class at 2 p.m., a free yoga class at 3:30 p.m. along with raffles for classes, massages and other sessions of relaxation.
Blue is offering an October only special; one hour massage for $35. The appointment must be in October. A Two Class introduction to Yoga begins, Tuesday, Sept. 23 for $15.
