GETTING THEM READY – Houlton Water Company staff grill the hot dogs for their annual Customer Appreciation Day held Aug. 29.
“Our customer appreciation day in the downtown was a success,” said John Clark, Houlton Water Company’s general manager. “With the cooperation of the town, we block off a large portion of the square, put up a tent, table and chairs, set up our grills and served a lunch of hot dogs, chips and soda to anyone and everyone that stopped by.”
The event gives the Houlton Water Company staff and their customers an opportunity to meet-and-greet old friends and neighbors, as well as newcomers to the area.
“The day turns into a social event,” said Clark. “I think most customers come as much to see who is there and for the conversation, as the lunch.”

A BITE TO EAT – Jay Clark gets his hot dog, chips and drink at the Houlton Water Company’s annual Customer Appreciation Day held August 29 in Market Square. This is the 11th consecutive year that the Houlton Water Company has served a free barbecue lunch to their customers.

This is the 11th consecutive year that Houlton Water Company has served its patrons.
“It all started when we developed a new logo 12 years ago and the associated tag line under the logo said “Serving Our Neighbors.” Our customers are our neighbors, as we are located in the center of the community and our employees live in the communities we serve,” Clark explained.
With the new logo, staff decided to bring the community of neighbors together, serving them lunch at the same time.
So, “Let’s Do Lunch” has been ingrained as a summer custom.
