A good crowd got together on Saturday, Jan. 19, at Washburn Elementary School to take part in a special fund-raiser for the Class of 2008. Approximately 150 enjoyed a great spaghetti supper ably prepared by school cook Jody Dickinson. The meal came complete with everything from salad and rolls to the main course and desserts.
After supper, the fun really got going with the auction. Items ranged from handmade quilts, artwork and ceramic items, to candles, gift certificates, potatoes and home décor items.
The auctioneer, Tom Drew, of Woodland, provided his services at no fee for the class and showed his true value in entertainment while auctioneering. He included several members of the audience with his valuable sense of humor, proving that among all the items up for bid, he could sell a purse to a guy! He also provided the audience with some information on one of the bidders who had hit one of his goats a year or so ago. Talk about not being able to forget! It seems as though she not only hit the goat, she left the scene of the accident after the creature got up and ran home to ‘nana.’ She did phone him later on that night to see how he’d made out, and when no one was home, she left a message, but not her phone number! The auctioneer was kind to forgive her after she’d bid on quite a few items!
The senior high students showed the auction items and delivered them to the winning bidders. They also bid off some of the remaining spaghetti and meat sauce. The profits from the evening will go towards the expenses of the class trip to Boston. The seniors thank all who donated and participated in this event.
The seniors will also be selling Little Caesars Pizza, as well as pie kits, cookie dough and bread stick kits. All seniors have sale flyers and items can be seen on the Web site pizzakit.com. The orders will need to be placed by Wednesday, Jan. 30.
The class of 2008 will also be having an ongoing bottle drive and ask that anyone wishing to donate to the event can drop off their bottles at the Presque Isle Redemption Center or have any senior class member pick them up.

Gentlemen, start your engines!
Cub Scout Pack 162 held their annual Pinewood Derby on Saturday, Jan. 19. There were 13 pack members participating as well as several scouts lending a hand. Three Boy Scouts from Troop 177 volunteered their time to assist in the race. Those helping included David Roy, Andrew White and Keegan Page. Greg and Allison Page also volunteered their time as race officials.
This was the first race that the new aluminum track was used. Washburn’s Pack 162 purchased the new beauty from money donated by a couple of businesses and from all the fund-raisers done throughout the year. The track was a big hit. Thanks go out to all who contributed and helped make this purchase possible.
