“Team work” was the theme of the day on Wednesday, March 14, as students at Hodgdon High School experienced leadership and team building events sponsored by the Army National Guard. This was the third year the National Guard has volunteered staff and equipment to support our local schools. Mr. Rafford, Hodgdon High School’s principal, has been instrumental in organizing the successful events each year, along with SFC Robert Greenier.
Students rallied together in their advisory groups to compete in an inflatable obstacle course, a climbing wall, inflatable football targets and four other team building activities testing physical and mental strength and agility.
Teachers and students worked together to ensure that all students were able to finish each obstacle while fine-tuning leadership and team building skills.
Mr. Rafford commented, “The National Guard visits to our school have been all about the students and not part of their regular recruiting duties.” The students seemed to particularly enjoy the inflatable obstacle course and the rock-climbing wall. Even the teachers could be seen through the inflatable course and repelling off the rock wall.
The event culminated in a poster contest between advisory groups as each group was given time to create a visual to represent their team building exercises of the day and orally present to the National Guard Team. Students were also given an opportunity to win several door prizes donated by the National Guard. Thank you to SFC Greenier and Mr. Rafford for providing such an amazing opportunity for our students and staff at Hodgdon High School.
