Ricker Rumblings

Sunday morning here. Beautiful day and we thank the Lord for bringing us this unusual weather.
Congratulations to Louis and Josephine Curry who was observing their 62nd wedding anniversary on June 16. Louie and Jo is a great couple, still take walks together. Lou is a former pharmacist at the Rexall store in Houlton.
Janice and Harold McCarthy attended on Saturday funeral services for Dana McGuire, their former neighbor. Dana was a buddy of one of McCarthy’s sons, too young to pass away. Our condolences.
The open house on Main Street Saturday afternoon for Bob and Helen Glidden was very nice. The Gliddens were celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary and the party was planned by daughters-in-law and sons. Our congratulations to Bob and Helen!
Lavina Byron attended a birthday party for her aunt in Fredericton, N.B. Saturday. Lavina said she is her only aunt.
Kathryn Hall visited her mother, Lois Downing, over the weekend.
Are you making plans for the Fourth of July? It is fast approaching.
Attended the memorial Mass for deceased Doris Hissom this past week. Doris lived in the Pittsfield area and had many friends come from that area for her Mass. God bless Doris.

Attending were Al and Jean Hogan of Vanceboro, Jim and Julie Hogan, Joey Hogan, Mary Newhouse and Carl and Carmel Watson. Ricker Rumblings
By Lois Downing

Hello everyone. The forecast is a great day in Houlton, Maine!
Alma Gallop and her sister Alice McQuarrie spent several days in Arizona where they visited relatives and friends. They reported having a wonderful time. (They are not tenants here.)
Bob Chasse has spent several days at Houlton Regional Hospital. We hope you are better, Bob.
Lillian Stairs received a call from a female voice inquiring about her bank numbers. It’s a scam! When Lillian told them no, the woman on the other end had some choice words! Don’t ever give your bank numbers out — the banks don’t do business that way.
Kathryn Hall of Bangor spent the weekend with her mother, Lois Downing.
Harold McCarthy is home after several days at Houlton Regional Hospital. Glad you are better, friend.
Charlene and Brian Henderson, our plaza liaisons, spent the weekend at Prince Edward Island. Brian will soon have surgery in Bangor.
Molly and Chet Bailey of Smyrna Street rushed to Rockland a week ago where Molly’s daughter, Janice, had suffered a heart attack. All is better now and Molly and Janice are home again.
Our sympathy goes out to the Putnam family in the loss of their mother, Mary M. Putnam. “Malee,” as she was commonly called, was a very likable person, with a dry sense of humor, and will be missed by family, friends and the community. Her funeral on Saturday was a testament to that. God bless, Malee.
The recent rainstorm struck a tree, near the first swing at the plaza. That’s pretty close!
My thought for the day is: “Peace I leave you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27)
Have a great week.
