PRESQUE ISLE – Class B varsity basketball action again hit the Presque Isle High School courts as both Wildcat teams hosted Ellsworth to a taste of Aroostook County domination.
The Presque Isle girls had three players in double-digits toward the 59-31 triumph.
Kayla Legassie put up the team-high 15 points, and point guard Sarah Porter shot for another 14 points. Allison Dean proved deadly beyond the arc with three three-pointers.
“We needed a win. It was something positive for us,” said head coach Jeff Hudson. “Legassie was all over the place, our defense set the tempo and we were looking around a little more than we usually do.”
Ellsworth led 31-29 at the half of Saturday’s boys game, but the Wildcats pounced back to take the 62-50 win and bring their record to 9-2.
Senior Adam Kingsbury captained his squad with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Russ Mortland put in 16 points and Nic Gallant had 10 for Presque Isle.
Senior Mortland captained the Wildcats over Fort Kent last Wednesday at PIHS, 62-39. Mortland had double three-pointers to an 18 point total in the scrimmage. Nate Ackerson passed along seven assists and put up 12 points for Presque Isle.
In the Wildcat and Warrior matchup on Jan. 8th, the scoreboard only showed a few points difference at the end of each quarter. Fort Kent pulled out the final quarter victory over the PIHS girls, 61-58.
Three athletes led the Big Blue in scoring. Legassie put in 17 points, Porter shot for 12 points and Dean added three three-pointers to her 11 point total.
