Highway hopes dashed — Houlton could see its hopes for early completion of the last miles of Maine’s sector of the Interstate Highway System to terminus of U.S. Route 2 at the International Boundary fade into the indefinite future as testimony unfolded from all sections of the state at the first public hearing before the Legislative Research Committee.
At no time during the session, which last more than eight hours, could representatives see any encouraging testimony to kindle any hope that construction of the federally-sponsored 315-mile expressway across Maine would be continued north of Bangor within the next decade.
