New laws and fines have been set into effect as of Sept. 9, 2007. Here are a few of the listings to keep you better informed. • A driver under 18 years of age operating while using a phone or handheld electronic device. First offense, $70 fine; second and subsequent offense, $310.
• Passengers 18 years old and younger not properly secured in a seatbelt. First offense, $70 fine; second offense, $160 fine; third offense, $310 fine.
• Unnecessary brake/acceleration noise, $137 fine.
• Transporting a dog (or dogs) in an open portion of the vehicle not protected, $137 fine.
• Failure to stop at a stop sign, $131 fine.
• Failure to stop at a red light before a right turn, $131 fine.
• Failure to keep right with a bicycle, $22 fine.
